research/documenation

living organisms....

I went to the SASA Gallery. Was not particularly impressed.

I like reflections...

Process of making knitting device (that I did not end up using)

the knitting device I reconstructed-mine was a larger size

would love to read these books when I have time...

These videos are from when I walked to bunnings from uni to get nails for the knitting device. I saw my own shadow following me and thought it was very mystical. It followed me most of the way from a far distance, sometimes hiding.

I used a machine to punch holes into the device.

putting the nails into the device- this is where the wool would end up

completed device !

His work was a core influence of mine. I liked his honesty. Some of his texts where painfully vulnerable...almost embarrassing to read. I would like to include this notion of painful vulnerability in my work..it is very beautiful. Very roar and human...this is why I love art! :)

A lot of his work refers to Christianity...I think religion can have a very positive affect on people giving them hope and a strong sense of morality. However on the other hand it can lead to unhealthy notions of 'guilt' and 'restriction' which causes people harm. It is just like anything else...there is good and bad things involved. The balance is important.
He also speaks of childhood narratives. It is fascinating how childhood has such a profound impact on people's lives. The first 20 years seems to determine the next 80 years or so...
This particular narrative above shows a story of a gym teacher stalking his student. It is very creepy but I can see it happening. I am interested in this notion of people becoming self-absorbed to the point of madness. This clearly shows this: the man has let his desire over take his sense of morality. I don't think he would stalk his student if he had a high sense of introspection. I can relate this to smaller things that many people do such as 'facebook stalking'. People become unaware of what they 'should do' instead they go through people's photos even if they barely know them which is very strange. However the individuals become so lost they are not aware of their 'creepiness'.

I love Trevor Nichols' work! The idea of harmony between man, nature and race is very appealing.
